Samuel Gebru

Samuel M. Gebru is a social entrepreneur, community organizer, and professional troublemaker. He is the Managing Director of Black Lion Strategies, a boutique social impact and public affairs consulting firm, building on his 17 years of political and nonprofit experience in the United States and East Africa. Samuel is also a Nonresident Senior Fellow at the Center for State Policy Analysis at Tufts University’s Jonathan M. Tisch College of Civic Life, where he contributes to policy research, programming, and partnerships. An experienced leader and connector, Samuel has devoted over half of his life to creating and guiding initiatives, building partnerships, and advocating for economic opportunity and social justice. He discovered his vocation for public service as a 13-year-old bringing attention to maternal health issues and raising funds for women suffering from obstetric fistula, a rare childbirth injury. Samuel is a former candidate for City Council in his hometown of Cambridge, Massachusetts, and he remains deeply involved in local, state, and federal policy issues, including housing, economic development, public health, youth leadership, and public safety. He is multilingual, serves on several boards and commissions, is a frequent public speaker, and is an enthusiastic coffee and ice cream aficionado.
